The Portuguese Bookstore was founded, jointly
with the typographic workshop of Michel
Chandeigne (french page) in Paris, in 1986.
In
1992 he associated with Anne Lima to found the Chandeigne publishing house.
They started by publishing, the nowadays bestseller The
Frontier (La
Frontière - in french) by Pascal Quignard,
and the first book in the prestigious series Magellane : Tragic
Maritime Histories (Histoires
tragico-maritimes - in french), three stories
of Portuguese shipwreck in the 16th century.
The publishers remain true to the good old "laws" of typography. While
the workshop is equipped with up-to-date software, the publishing process follows
typographic traditions, with results highly praised both by press public. Five
to eight titles are published each year, in the various series (Magellane,
Lusitane, Péninsules
and Grands Formats).
The Portuguese bookstore offers a very rich collection of the Portuguese world
: Portugal, Brazil, Portuguese Africa and Asiatic communities of Portuguese
culture. The store remains true to its first vocation: books, only books, with
a strong leaning toward litterature and history, especially history of the Discoveries,
Ethnology, Art, not forgetting, of course, ALL French publications concerning
the Portuguese world. The bookstore issues a supplement to its catalog, containing
information and critiques on new released publications, three or four times
a year.
| The Portuguese bookstore is staffed by Michel Chandeigne,(generally present on Monday and Saturday) and Elisabeth Monteiro Rodrigues (from Tuesday to Friday). Anne Lima is present in the library normally on Monday and Thursday. | ![]() |
